Laurel Highlands Forensics League Students Create an Original Harlem Shake Video

Share & Comment

Today, March 7, I attended my region's district forensics conference at St. Francis University.  Anyone who is a member of the National Forensics League knows just how horrendous wait times can be before and after competitions; you feel as if you are there forever.  So, we decided to make the most of our time and join the millions taking part in the latest online sensation.

While waiting on the results and award ceremony, it all started when one student had an ingenious idea: to create a special edition Laurel Highlands Forensics League Harlem Shake video!  After the thousands of Harlem Shake videos that flooded YouTube, it became clear that we needed our own!  The result is the masterpiece created above.  It was recorded, edited, and uploaded by Jared Peterman.  Kudos to him for an excellent idea!

I am buried somewhere within the large, wild crowd.  It is impossible to see, but I am craftily wearing my tie as a bandana.  Throughout this video are also many other exciting people to find, including a student getting funky with a ficus plant and another in a Batman snuggy.

Today marked the last day that I will ever compete in commentary, and this video allowed us to end the season with a boom!  Through the creation of this video and a 3rd place medal in commentary, my day was greatly made.  I will miss all of my friends from my speech team and neighboring schools!  Videos like the one above show just how exciting speech can be at times!

  1. I love this!! I laugh every time I watch it...drives Marie crazy! Glad you found a fun way to pass the time.

  2. I think I see you in the back! Your tie bandana is covering your eyes. You look like you're in a lot of pain... judging from the way that girl ran into you from behind. Hopefully you were not seriously injured... It's good that you had fun during the filming of this video.
